Resource Requirements

This article explains the minimum resource requirements to successfully run UpSearch’s exclusive Microsoft SQL Server inventory tool, also known as the ‘Tool’ or ‘Application,’ required for UpSearch’s Data Estate Assessment for SQL Server.  The agentless desktop application, which has a small installation footprint, comprehensively scans to gather enterprise-wide details about each Microsoft SQL Server instance and the underlying Windows Operating System.

Minimum Resource Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or later.
  • Processor: A dual-core 1.5GHz processor.
  • Architecture: 64-bit executable.
  • .NET Framework: Version 4.6.2 or later.
  • RAM: 8 GB or higher.
  • Hard Disk Space: 316 MB (app 60 MB & results 256 MB).
  • Intranet Connection: Required.

Supported SQL Server and Operating System Versions

These resource requirements are necessary to enable the Tool to collect information from Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or higher, running on Windows 2000 or higher, and Windows Azure SQL Database (if using SMO 2008 or higher). In addition, including VM-hosted cloud platform assets occurs when you join them to the domain.

The Tool utilizes SQL Server Shared Management Objects (SMO) and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to collect information. Therefore, it operates most effectively when you use a version of SMO that matches or exceeds the highest version of each SQL Server instance from which you collect information.

You can download the latest version of SMO from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29065.

Please be aware that SMO also necessitates downloading Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types from the same page.
