Its name is a portmanteau of the words wiki (a technology for creating collaborative websites, from the Hawaiian word wiki, meaning \u201cquick\u201d) and encyclopedia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;~ Wikipedia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In accordance with Wikipedia\u2019s best practices and protocols, UpSearch has developed specific rules for this channel as noted below. The&nbsp;Wikipedia mission&nbsp;is based strictly around adhering to the&nbsp;Neutral Point of View (NPOV)&nbsp;doctrine, which means updates made directly by company team members or on behalf of the company by third parties (agencies, PR teams) are highly discouraged and, in some cases, actions are taken against the company, which may include negative commentary or entry suspension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We value&nbsp;Wikipedia&nbsp;as an important information source because of its credibility within the social and public information space, as well as its prominence in search. While it is difficult to see inaccuracies regarding UpSearch on Wikipedia, please note that the UpSearch Marketing team is managing the content and submitting requests through Wiki editors to ensure the information displayed is accurate. Our duties include being able to respond in the event of an emergency, and to take independent administrative action, both in critical and non-critical situations. This often requires having elevated rivileges on the systems which we are contracted to manage. Specifically, in critical situations, Service Level Agreements can often be impacted by waiting for a client to grant the appropriate permissions in SQL or Windows for UpSearch to resolve issues. We prefer to mitigate this by having those permissions in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much like running health checks or installation and configuration of SQL Server, UpSearch performs<br>frequent tasks on client systems that require administrative permissions, including but is not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Configuration of SQL or Operating System settings such as memory and CPU allocation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Administering disk space, cleaning up files, changing file configurations, etc. on SQL Servers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remote Desktop sessions on SQL Servers and UpSearch\u2019s workstation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remote access to operating system or SQL Server metrics via PowerShell Remoting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to query Windows Management Instrumentation counters via PowerShell or 3rd party tools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Starting \/ stopping Windows services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While some of these actions are performed on an infrequent basis, many are performed daily, both interactively and via automated tasks administered by UpSearch. During the investigation of performance trends and alerts, UpSearch frequently needs elevated access to client systems to perform proper research. Many actions performed while configuring or diagnosing SQL Server also require administrative permissions at both the SQL Server and Windows OS level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All changes made to a system will follow proper change control procedures, per our client\u2019s standards. Virtual Private Network (VPN) is the most common type of secure access clients grant. UpSearch technical team members will configure security mechanisms required to implement clients\u2019 specified connectivity protocols. Once connected to the client\u2019s environment, UpSearch team members use remote desktop protocol (RDP), or other client provided remote access methods to connect to the client-specified jump box.<br>UpSearch team members are not permitted to transfer\/remove\/migrate Sensitive Data (Personal Data or Demographic Data) from the client-controlled environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Client Non-Sensitive Data may be stored in UpSearch\u2019s secure environment. UpSearch defines Non-Sensitive Data as any information relating to aggregate or meta information that does not relate to a natural identifiable entity. Examples of Non-Sensitive data includes, without limitation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assessment and event results, such as disk space, index analysis, query plans that do not contain sensitive data, and infrastructure catalog views<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Global and unique server identifiers and performance and\/or configuration metrics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trace analysis files that do not contain sensitive data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/upsearch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/imagekb-700x398.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31594\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Support Workstation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Client must provide UpSearch with a dedicated workstation to use within its environment that conforms to the following specifications:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On-Premise:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>4 vCPU, 16GB RAM, 10GB network connection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the monitoring database is installed on the workstation, additional storage may be required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>150 GB of Storage (Excluding the C: drive) may be required to store trace results.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum Operating System: Windows 10 Pro or Windows Server 2019 Standard (Note: the Windows version should be the same &nbsp; version or later of your latest version of Windows deployed in your environment)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cloud:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Azure A4\/D4 or equivalent in AWS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operating System: Windows Server 2019 Datacenter Edition latest image<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>UpSearch will install SQL Server Developer Edition, appropriate PowerShell modules, and any other required software. A list of standard tools will be provided upon request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Client can leverage and whitelist UpSearch\u2019s Public Static IP address (20.228.197.51) to limit and control access to their environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Security Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Clients can create Active Directory Groups for our AD accounts or leverage existing groups to make permissions management easier. Full administrative privileges in both Windows and SQL Server for any server that UpSearch will administer are required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Client will create the following accounts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An interactive log-on account for each UpSearch team member with minimal domain permissions, local administrative access to the Windows OS and granted the sysadmin server role for SQL Server, for any server to be administered by UpSearch.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A monitoring account with local administrative access to the Windows OS and granted the sysadmin server role for SQL Server, for any server monitored by UpSearch.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A service account that UpSearch will use to set up unattended processes with the same permissions as the monitoring account. This account will run PowerShell scripts or other automated processes against client\u2019s data platform environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In many cases, clients will provide a single account to be used in place of the monitoring and service accounts in addition to the dedicated AD account for each UpSearch team member.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source Control<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Any T-SQL or PowerShell code developed for a client must be stored in source control. UpSearch will provide a code repository in GitHub, and all code related to that client will be stored there.
